The first international cricketer from Pimpri Chinchwad, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is one of the most promising names in Indian cricket.

Originally from Paragon Memane, Rituraj, with his superb batting for CSK in the IPL, has won the hearts of many cricket fans worldwide.

Here are 20 interesting facts about this talented young cricketer

1) On 31 January 1997, Ruturaj Gaikwad was born in Pune, Maharashtra of India.

2) His father, Dashrath Gaikwad, was a DRDO employee and his mother, Sawita Gaikwad, used to teach in a municipality school.

3) In 2003, Ruturaj watched a match between New Zealand and Australia in Pune’s Nehru Stadium

In that match, the six-year-old Rituraj, after watching Brendon McCullum decimate the Aussie fast bowlers, got interested in playing cricket

4) At the age of 11, Rituraj joined the Varroc Vengsarkar Cricket Academy at Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune

5) In the 2010 Cadence trophy, Gaikwad scored 63 not out against Mumbai’s MIG Cricket club and helped his academy beat them by 7 wickets.

6) In the 2014-15 Cooch Behar Trophy, Rituraj scored 826 runs in 6 matches ( including three centuries and a half-century ) and was the second-highest scorer in that tournament

7) At the age of 19, Rituraj Gaikwad made his first-class debut for Maharashtra against Jharkhand in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy

But, he got hit by a bouncer from Varun Aaron and had to miss that Ranji season.

8) On 25 February 2017, Gaikwad made his List A debut for Maharashtra in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy and scored 444 runs in 7 matches along with an average of 63.42

He scored three half-centuries and one century in that tournament and was the third-highest run-scorer in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare trophy.

9) In December 2018, Gaikwad was included in the Indian team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

10) In his first tour with India A, Gaikwad scored 207 runs in four innings at an average of 51, including two half-centuries

11) In June 2019, Rituraj scored an unbeaten knock of 187 runs for India A against Sri-Lanka A, and in October 2019, he played for India B in the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy

12) In the 2019 IPL player auction, Chennai Super Kings bought him for INR 20 lacs but did not play any matches in that tournament.

13) On 2 October 2021, Gaikwad scored his first IPL century ( 101 not out ) against the Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 IPL

14) Rituraj managed to win the Orange Cap in the 2021 IPL and also received the Emerging Player of the Year award

15) Ahead of the 2022 IPL auction, Chennai Super Kings retained Gaikar for a sum of INR 6 crores

16) On 28 July 2021, Rituraj Gaikwad made his T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka

17) In the 2021–22 Vijay Hazare trophy, Gaikwad equaled Virat Kohli’s record of scoring maximum hundreds in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare trophy

18) Ruturaj Gaikwad loves to play Tennis, and after cricket, it is his second most-favorite sport

19) He is a part-time off-spinner, and MS Dhoni has praised his captaincy acumen during the 2019 IPL
