On 3rd January 2022, Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has announced his retirement from international cricket after 18 years of international cricket

Started as an opening batsman, Hafeez, with his off-spin bowling, later proved to be an effective spin-bowling all-rounder.

He is considered as one of the best Pakistani all-rounders in the limited-overs format.

1) Mohammad Hafeez ‘The Professor’ was born in “City of Eagles” Sargodha on October 17, 1980, in Punjab, Pakistan

2) In April 2003, Hafeez made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Sharjah

3) In August 2003, Mohammad Hafeez made his Test debut against Bangladesh at Karachi and scored his maiden Test hundred at Peshawar.

4) Mohammad Hafeez played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural season of the IPL.

Hafeez scored 64 runs from 8 matches and managed to pick up one wicket in that IPL edition.

5) On 29th January 2011, Mohammad Hafeez scored his maiden ODI hundred at Christchurch.

Opening the batting, Hafeez scored 115 runs off 144 balls and helped Pakistan win by 43 runs.

6) In 2011, Hafeez managed to win ten Man-of-the-Match awards in international cricket

In that year, he also became the 3rd player after Sanath Jayasuriya and Jacques Kallis to score 1000 ODI runs and pick 30 ODI wickets in a calendar year.

7) In 2012, he led the Pakistan team to Asia Cup victory since 2000

Hafeez was the highest run-getter in that tournament with 245 runs that included a century (105) against arch-rivals India.

In the final, he scored 40 runs, picked one wicket, and Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 2 runs

8) Hafeez is the only Pakistani cricketer to get nominated by the ICC for the ‘Spirit-of-Cricket award’

In 2012, he was nominated for this award for not claiming a catch against England in the UAE

12) He led Pakistan to victories over South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe in T20Is and equaled the record of most wins as a Pakistani T20I captain

He also became the first Pakistani captain to score three consecutive half-centuries.

14) In 2017, ICC suspended Hafeez for illegal bowling action.

In 2019, ECB also banned Hafeez from bowling in the T20 Blast.
