1) Eden Gardens, designed in 1841, was named after the Eden sisters of Lord Auckland, who was the then Governor-General of India.

2) Eden Gardens, established in 1864, is the first officially built cricket stadium in India (150+ years old), and hence, a historic ground.

3) It is the 3rd-largest stadium in the world after Narendra Modi Stadium and the MCG, with a capacity of 100,000 seats

4)Eden Gardens hosted its first test match in 1934 between India and England, which England managed to win by eight wickets

5) This stadium hosted its first ODI match in 1987 between India and Pakistan, which Pakistan managed to win by just two wickets

6) In 1987, this stadium became the 2nd international stadium to host a World Cup final.

7) On 10th November 1991, South Africa played their first ODI in this iconic ground after 20 years of suspension

8) VVS Laxman scored a match-winning 281 runs knock against Australia (2001) on this ground which was the then highest individual test score by an Indian cricketer
