Dewald Brevis, South Africa’s breakout star performer in the 2022 U-19 World Cup, is currently one of the most anticipated names in the cricketing world.

Even though it was India that grabbed the title, Brevis, with his excellent batting, made many headlines.

So today, we have listed down 10 little-known facts about this talented cricketer.

1) On 29 April 2003, Dewald Brevis was born in Johannesburg in South Africa

2) He played for the Pretoria’s Afrikaanse Hoor Seunskool in school cricket

Coincidentally, ‘Mr.360’ AB De Villiers also completed his schooling at the same institution.

3) Dewald Brevis is a big fan of AB de Villiers and wears jersey number 17, much like De Villiers

Before using that number, he sought permission from the legend

4) On 8 October 2021, Brevis made his T20 debut for Titans against Knights in CSA T20 Challenge 2022

Opening the innings for Titans, he scored 23 runs off 25 balls.

5) In the eight T20s he played for the Titans, Brevis has scored 202 runs at an average of 28.85 and has also picked 5 wickets with his leg-break

6) In the 2022 U-19 World Cup, Dewald Brevis impressed everyone by scoring centuries against Bangladesh and Uganda

The South African coach Shukri Conrad was so impressed, he started calling him the ‘AB de Villers 2.0’.

7) Brevis ended up scoring 506 runs at an average of 84.33 in the 2022 U-19 World Cup

ICC rightfully named him the ‘Player of the Tournament’

8) Brevis was bought by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 3 crores in the 2022 IPL auction.

9) Dewald Brevis’s batting stance and pitch-perfect timing resemble South African legend AB de Villiers, and hence, has been nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ in South Africa.

10) He is also a huge fan of the ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar and wants to stay humble like him in his cricket career
