Axar Patel, the talented Indian spin-bowling all-rounder, is one of the most utility cricketers in the world today.

Be it international cricket, domestic cricket, or the IPL, Axar Patel has proved his worth and impressed cricket fans all over the world.

1) On 20 January 1994, Axar Patel was born in the city of Nadiad (Gujarat) in India

2) From his childhood, he always loved playing cricket but never thought of playing professional cricket

At the age of 15, watching his cricketing talent, his friend Dhiren Kansara persuaded him to play for the school team

This incident kick-started his interest in cricket and he started training as a professional cricketer

3) From an early age, Axar was good at academics and wanted to become a mechanical engineer.

But Axar’s father insisted his son take the game seriously, and even with his weak financial condition, encouraged his son by taking him to training camps.

4) Axar’s grandmother wanted to see him play for the Indian cricket team

But unfortunately, she passed away when Axar was in the middle of a tour, so, he could not attend her funeral

5) Playing for the Gujarat U19 cricket team, Axar hurt his leg and got ruled out for all the matches in that season.

That was a moment, in which, Axar, with all his pain, thought of quitting the game.

6) As a young cricketer, Axar was a big fan of Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh

In an interview, Axar revealed that Yuvi was a huge inspiration for him, especially his stylish batting left a lasting impression on him

7) A left-hand batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Axar started primarily as a batsman but then switched to spin bowling to increase his chances to play for the Indian team

He was studying Mechanical engineering at Dharmsinh Desai University but dropped out after a few years to focus completely on cricket

8) In November 2012, Axar made his first-class debut for Gujarat against Madhya Pradesh at Indore

9) In 2013, Axar received an IPL contract from the Mumbai Indians but didn’t play a single match in that

In the following year, he earned an IPL contract from the Kings XI Punjab

10) Axar Patel played a key role in Indian U-23’s win in the 2013 ACC Emerging Teams Cup

He picked seven wickets, including a four-wicket haul against UAE in the semi-finals of the tournament

11) In November 2013, in his second first-class match, Axar picked his first five-wicket haul (6-55) against Delhi in Surat

In the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy, he picked up 29 wickets and ended as Gujarat’s third-highest wicket-taker. He also scored 369 runs in that season at an impressive average of 46.12

12) In 2014, he picked 17 wickets to help his IPL team Kings XI Punjab reach the finals of the 2014 IPL

He was also awarded the ‘Emerging Player of the tournament’ trophy for his amazing performance

Axar was awarded the ‘BCCI U19 Cricketer of the Year’ trophy for his performances in the 2013-14 season

13) On 15 June 2014, Axar Patel made his ODI debut for India against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium

He picked his first ODI wicket in this match in the form of Mashrafe Mortaza

14) In November 2014, Axar played all the matches in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and managed to pick 11 wickets in that series

He was included in the squad for the 2015 World Cup but didn’t get to play a single match

15) On 17 July 2015, Axar made his T20I debut for India against Zimbabwe at Harare

Axar finished with the figures of 3-17 in the match to help India defeat Zimbabwe by 54 runs and earned the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

16) On 1 May 2016, he picked his first hat-trick in IPL against the Gujarat Lions in Rajkot.

He ended with figures of 4-21 as his team Kings XI Punjab defeated the Lions by 24 runs

17) Axar Patel and his success story have made Nadiad a popular city, more facilities are being provided by the Gujarat Cricket Association to make sure more players get access to cricket.

18) In 2018, Kings XI Punjab released Axar Patel and got signed up by Delhi Capitals

19) On 13 February 2021, Axar Patel made his international test debut against England at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai

He picked his first international Test wicket in the form of Joe Root. He took a five-wicket haul in England’s second innings and became the 9th Indian bowler to pick a five-wicket haul on Test debut.

20) Axar picked 27 wickets at an insane average of 10.59 and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in his debut test series

21) In December 2021, Axar Patel scored his maiden international half-century against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai

In the Kanpur Test, against New Zealand, Axar Patel became the joint second-fastest to pick up 5 five-wicket hauls in Test matches ( 6 innings )

22) Just before the 2022 IPL auction, Axar along with Risabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje was retained by Delhi capitals

23) Axar is a big fan of actors Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar

His favourite actresses are Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra

24) Axar loves swimming and his collection of luxury cars includes – a Mercedes SUV and Audi Q5
